Villino Ferrero is a 1912 Art Nouveau residence restored by Amnios Architettura. Today, the ground floor has been transformed into a Boutique Apartment for short-term rental — the result of a radical renovation that has brought light and vitality back to a space once dark, damp, and barely inhabitable.
The project first addressed the structural issues: the soil was detached from the rear façade, and a ventilated perimeter drainage system was introduced to reduce moisture and radon levels. The original windows were converted into French doors, transforming the space into a true garden house, where every room opens directly onto a private garden in a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior.
To counter residual humidity, macroporous plaster and calcium silicate insulation were applied, while new window frames and heat pump systems completed the building’s energy upgrade.
During construction, original Art Nouveau features emerged and were carefully restored: frescoes on the coffered ceilings, concealed beneath layers of white paint, and fine handcrafted cement tiles and terrazzo floors that had been covered over time. The original wrought-iron grilles were extended downward to follow the transformation of the windows into doors. Iconic elements such as a period cast-iron food warmer were also reintegrated, preserving the house’s historic character.
Custom-designed furnishings — including oak and stainless-steel sofas, headboards, and built-in wardrobes — were conceived by Amnios Architettura and are now patented. The lighting design alternates technical solutions with decorative accents, subtly supporting the historic fabric.
The result is a Boutique Holiday Home, where interior and exterior flow seamlessly into one another, and Liberty charm engages in a balanced dialogue with contemporary living.
